In a Blink

I wish life could be DVR'd.

It just hit me that my boys are growing up so fast. Where does the time go?

One moment I am swaddling Colin then the next moment he is climbing on all the furniture and wanting to feed himself. One moment, I am teaching Connor how to tie his shoes and the next moment he is making macaroni and cheese-BY HIMSELF!

Where does the time go?

These last couple of months I have witnessed the boys just bloom into their personalities. It's exciting and terrifying at the same time. I tell Mike all the time that I want to hit "pause" and just hold onto these precious moments awhile longer. I know more milestones are around the corner but I feel like life is on fast forward and I am struggling to keep up.

Connor is not the little boy I met 7 years ago. He has his own opinions, ideas. He's funny and tenderhearted.  He's curious and cautious. He's a young man. Mike and I are so proud of the person he is growing up to be.

And then there "Cheeks," he's adventurous and daring. Strong-willed and silly. Cuddly and affectionate.
I can catch a glimpse of the person he's going to be and it's so exciting.

There is a song from "Big:The Musical" called "Stop Time," I think the lyrics explain exactly what I feel. “Nobody warns you of this parent’s paradox. You want your kid to change and grow... but when he does, another child you’ve just begun to know, leaves forever.’’

I guess every mom has this moment where they want to freeze time. These moments come and go and you never get them back.

I am curious to see what the next few years will look like. In five years, Connor will be graduating from high school, Colin will be starting kindergarten. Mike will be 42 and I will be close to 40!

I just ask God to slow down time...just a little, so I can just enjoy every precious second.

  1. Absolutely LOVE the photo!

And-- since we can't freeze time (no matter HOW MUCH we want to; right with you on this wish!), we're reminded that each new phase introduces us to an increasingly interesting and more amazing person. We treasure each "new child" all the more because this we know: every special moment (good or not-so-good!) is a temporary blessing, adding its own unique zest to the incredible richness they bring to our lives.
