Must be a boy thing...

Living in a house full of men is a challenge. To say I don't understand what happens in my house is an understatement.

My confusion-- and at times frustration-- goes beyond the toilet seat debate.

EXHIBIT A: Mike and I tell Connor throughout the week of an ortho appointment. This morning, I hand him the note to excuse him from class and REMIND him again that he has to be waiting for me at the school office at 10 a.m.

I arrive on time and I wait. And wait. And.Wait.

I find out that Connor never turned in the note and the secretary has to call him down to the office.
When he finally arrives, he says he forgot.

REALLY!?

This is the same child who can tell you-- chapter and verse-- the score to every OSU game the past five years and who made the big plays.

This is the same child who will hound us about a book order that is due in a month.
This is the same child who is  walking TV guide.

But he can't remember a doctor appointment.

SIGH.

EXHIBIT B: I love my husband. I do.

But the man can not remember details of a conversation. For example, He'll have a conversation with his sister, she mentions that they are planning a dinner and invite us over. He says okay.

When he tells me about it, he can't remember, what time, when, if we should bring anything, etc.

He laughs and says, "Honey, I am a man. You are the social coordinator."

This is the same man, who knows EVERYTHING about the Beach Boys, The Beatles, OSU Football statistics, WWI and WWII history... the list can go on and on.

But he can't remember what time or day dinner is at his sister's house?

SIGH.

I admit I am not perfect. But I give it the ol' try.

That is why I have to write everything down. We have a grease board calendar in our kitchen and everyone is designated a color (even Fergus). Like I tell my boys, if it's not on the calendar, then I don't know about it. If it's important to you, then make sure it's on the board.

I am always updating my calendar on my phone (yes, I make sure the events on the calendar in the kitchen are in sync with my cell phone).  I use the alerts option on my phone to remind me of things coming up.

Like I mentioned before, I am no saint. I am the woman who will clean the bathroom, take down the dirty towels but forget to put clean towels in. Many a time, Mike and Connor will step out of the shower only to find that there are no towels. OOPS!

I am the woman who has reusable grocery bags but 50% of the time forgets to bring them in.

SIGH.

Most of the time, I just let things slide but I don't want to be our family's Norton Securty Scan. What if I miss something?

Oh well. I guess it's one of the "blessings" of being the only girl in the house.

  1. Nicolle, I can not stop laughing! My boys are the same. (husband included) I was blessed with Mia. (who is now 6)She at least gives me a little girliness in the house. Boys forget everything. My Dan will be looking for his shoes and they are on his feet. It's really not that bad but it seems that way. Thanks for starting my day off with a laugh. I owe you.

  2. When you finally figure boys out, let me know, okay?? :)

And this isn't related to the topic, but WOW - you can see how much Mike and Connor look alike in that picture!!

  3. It's a guy thing. They are just wired different. Lucky ducks. Wouldn't it be great if we could all us gals could walk around saying, "Oops, I forgot."
